NEW ENTRANTS PROGRAM
A key mandate of the Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador (DFNL) is to support the sustainable development of the dairy industry.
The dairy industry in Canada operates under the guidance of the Canadian milk supply management system, the cornerstone rule of which is to match production to market demand. DFNL is a strong supporter of this system and, while we will engage in a full range of programs and activities to increase dairy consumption in Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, we are unable to support production levels incremental to what is being consumed.
DFNL is committed to excellence in milk quality, the highest standards of animal care and continuous improvement in environmental stewardship. DFNL is also committed to ensuring our farmers can succeed and grow under these principles. DFNL recognizes that the farmers ability to sell milk at a price that is higher than their cost to produce it, is key to their sustainability and success. Given that the Cost of Production (COP) is continuously changing, DFNL is committed to reviewing this program every 5 years, based on the best available information at that time.
